Rediscovering Confidence After Baby: My Postpartum Fitness Journey

Posted by Javana Saldana on

Becoming a mom has been the most beautiful experience of my life. But with all the joy, there’s also a big shift — physically, mentally, and emotionally. I want to share my journey of postpartum fitness, confidence, and regrowth with you, hoping it inspires other new moms who may be struggling to find themselves again.

Before I had my baby, I felt confident in my lean, tight figure. I worked out 3–4 times a week, usually in the mornings, and eating mostly healthy came naturally. Cheat meals didn’t stress me because my active lifestyle balanced everything out.

After giving birth, everything changed. My newborn needs to eat every 2–3 hours, and her favorite times are the early morning hours (2–6 AM). This completely disrupted my previous workout schedule. I gained 30 pounds during pregnancy and lost about 20 postpartum, but the last 10 pounds feel like they’re here to stay. Seeing my body in the mirror has challenged my confidence.

Postpartum life also taught me that managing my weight takes more intentional effort. Breastfeeding naturally increases appetite, and my new schedule means I eat more during afternoons/evenings. I had to shift my workouts to when my partner is home, plan my meals more carefully, and get creative with short but effective exercise sessions. I also started wearing my waist trainer regularly to help reshape my abdomen and burn a few extra calories.

Through it all, I’ve learned an important lesson: confidence and self-love don’t disappear after pregnancy — they just evolve. Becoming a mom is a season of growth, not just for my baby, but for me as well. My fitness journey now is about patience, intention, and consistency, rather than perfection.

If you’re a new mom struggling with postpartum confidence or weight, know this: you’re not alone. Allow yourself grace. Move your body when you can. Make mindful choices with food. Wear your waist trainer if it helps you feel snatched. Most importantly, remember that regrowth takes time — and it’s okay to start over. Every small step counts, and every effort is part of reclaiming your strength, confidence, and love for yourself.
